Date Night

Do you know what it feels like to miss someone who’s right next to you?  To see that person every single day and still feel so disconnected from them?  That’s how I’ve been feeling with JD lately.  Between our hectic schedules and taking care of L, it seems our “quality time” has turned into an hour here before night shift starts, an hour there planted in front of the TV after a long day, and sometimes a good laugh when we’re lying in bed at night.  I could look at my husband sitting next to me, and miss him.

Originally, we had talked about going away for a weekend with the baby but the more we talked about it, the more we thought what we really needed was to get someone to watch L so we could have a night to ourselves.  David’s grandma enthusiastically offered to take L, and I went to work planning a fantastic date night (and pre-birthday dinner for JD, whose bday is this week).

We started off our evening with a couples massage.  It was a bit of a splurge, but I figured there was no better way to kick off the evening then to make sure we were really relaxed.  We went downtown for dinner then walked across the street to a little chocolate factory for dessert.

It was refreshing, freeing. I wore a dress and heels. As much as I love my diaper bag, it was nice to replace it with a teeny, tiny wristlet.   I ordered 2 cocktails.  I was more than a mom.  I was an adult.  I was a wife.

It’s easy to forget those other parts of you once you become a mom. Don’t lose yourself completely, mamas. Buy a new outfit, hire a babysitter (or trade with a friend), and treat yourself and your hubby to a night out.  A real night out.  Tiny purse and all.
